Fighting Hunger With Hunger: FBNW Day Without Food

August 21, 2017

We’re starting a movement, WHO’S IN?!!!

September is Hunger Action Month and on September 1st we’re kicking it off with our first annual FBNW Day Without Food.

Join us in our continued efforts to help raise awareness about the hunger issue that affects millions of children in the US. For 24 hours, we will go without food while sharing our experience hour by hour on social media.

Our goal is to have people experience what it's like to go 24 hours without food. This action will help us start a conversation about the issue in hope to inspire more people to help tackle this problem.

In the grand scheme of things, going 24 hours without food will be uncomfortable, but it’s nothing compared to what children from food insecure households have to go through. More than 1 in 5 children in the US are at risk of hunger; among African-American and Latino children, this statistic jumps to 1 in 3. Our small action of going without food for 24 hours is just a taste of what these children face on a weekly, if not daily basis.

Here’s how you can support our movement:

    • WATER is the only thing that we will consume
    • Go for as long as you can but IF YOU NEED TO EAT THEN PLEASE DEFINITELY EAT! Share how you felt at that moment when you couldn’t go any further
    • SHARE your experience on social media with photos and/or videos. Make sure to include #fbnw #DayWithoutFood so that we can find your content and share
    • Write “#DAYWITHOUTFOOD” on the back of your hand and take A PHOTO OF YOUR HAND holding a fork – this is the symbol for our movement. Don’t forget to include #fbnw #DayWithoutFood in your caption!!
    • Pick a hunger buddy to do this with and TELL EVERYONE you know about the DAY WITHOUT FOOD!

For every photo post of our DAY WITHOUT FOOD symbol with #fbnw #DayWithoutFood, FBNW will give a bag of groceries to a child in need in your honor. Those who participate will also be invited to be a part of a future FBNW Food Drop.

If you want to go above and beyond and share your content directly with us, please email photos, videos, love/support letters to differencemaker@fbnw.us for a chance to be featured on our website.

We thank you for supporting our movement and for being a #FBNWDifferenceMaker.
