"There's winning and there's losing and in life, both will happen. What is never acceptable to me is quitting"
Every month, FBNW will be posting a quote that we hope can inspire you to go out and live your life to the fullest.
This month we are focusing on a statement made by Los Angeles sports icon Ervin "Magic" Johnson.
I've played sports most of my life and as much as I love it there is a harsh reality that comes with playing.
Both individuals or teams have an insatiable desire to win, however, we all know in the end only one team can take the victory.
So what happens when you are forced to deal with the agony of defeat?
As much as Magic Johnson won with the showtime Lakers in the 1980's he lost far more than he won.
He played 12 full seasons and won five championships which mean seven of those seasons he found himself on the short end of the stick (which included 4 finals losses).
Even Michael Jordan, who is regarded as the best player in NBA history took six years to gain his first championship.
"I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that's why I succeed" - MJ
No one is immune to defeat, in fact, more often than not it is to be expected.
However, if we quit the story ends right there.
We would never want an athlete to quit when the going gets tough, so why should we ever accept that sort of attitude from ourselves or those around us.
In fact, it is how we properly respond to those defeats that makes the victories that much sweeter.
